Why recovery is a rising trend in fitness

Published by HealthFitness on January 3rd, 2024

Recovery is a growing trend that aims to help people feel better faster so they can get ready for their next workout, all while preventing injuries and optimizing results. Active recovery helps to keep the blood flowing and muscles recovering and rebuilding after intense physical activity. It helps to keep muscles flexible by reducing lactic acid buildup in the muscles and eliminating toxins.

Professional athletes frequently use recovery, but it is becoming more popular in mainstream gyms and even home gyms. It's showing up in stretching-specific studios as well as with tools like foam rollers, massage guns, ice baths, and cryotherapies. HealthFitness supports active recovery with an assisted stretching program that helps participants reap the benefits of a structured, supported stretching session.

Assisted stretching as a recovery tool
Our assisted stretching program is designed to promote mobility in order to help participants move better, feel better, and perform better in the gym. Assisted stretching benefits both avid fitness center users and people who aren't quite ready to start using the gym but know they want to feel better.

Participants work one-on-one with a certified trainer, and the program is tailored to their specific needs. This means that assisted stretching is appropriate for people of all fitness levels and stages of life.

Another example is someone who has recently completed a movement assessment and discovered that they have challenges and are ready to take action. They decide to combine an assisted stretching program with a personalized workout program in order to strengthen weak muscle groups and lengthen tight areas.

Supporting the continuum of care
Active recovery helps keep participants on-site at the corporate fitness center, and it’s an effective way for the HealthFitness team to provide a continuum of care to them.

For example, if a participant comes in for an assisted stretching session and expresses discomfort from working long hours at their desk, our fitness professionals can serve as a gateway to other employee resources, possibly referring the participant to their organization's ergonomic services, stretch break offerings, benefits information, and other resources.

We tailor programming to the participant and assist them with behavior change and environmental triggers to help them improve mobility, boost fitness performance and improve potential for recovery.
