Recovery amenities: From equipment to a better recovery experience

Published by HealthFitness on September 30th, 2026

Recovery used to be an afterthought: a foam roller in the corner, a massage chair nobody scheduled, or a nice-to-have line item in a wellness budget.

Today, recovery is becoming an increasingly important part of the fitness and wellness experience. For employers, investing in recovery amenities can send a bigger message: we see the whole person.

But providing the equipment is only the first step. Creating a recovery program that employees can access easily, use consistently, and trust across locations takes trained staff, clear operating standards, reliable equipment, convenient scheduling, and data that shows how the program is performing.

That’s where HealthFitness brings value: we don’t just provide recovery amenities. We build and manage the program around them.

Staff Training That Creates Consistency

Every HealthFitness associate working in a fitness and recovery space is trained through our HealthFitness Movement Training System®, which provides a consistent foundation in movement science and allows staff to personalize care to each participant’s goals and needs.

That foundation is supported by ongoing, site-specific training covering:
  • Operation: Proper use of each device or amenity, including CryoLounge+®, Theragun®, compression systems, and assisted stretching equipment.
  • Safety Protocols: Modality-specific guidelines for safe and appropriate use, helping staff follow established procedures for each service.
  • Member Education: The knowledge and communication skills to explain what each service offers and how it may support a member’s goals.
  • Cleaning and Sanitation: Consistent procedures between sessions to help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.

For employers operating across multiple locations, consistency matters. A member using a recovery suite in one city should receive a comparable experience to a member using one three states away. Training doesn’t stop at onboarding. It is reinforced as equipment, protocols, and staff change, helping maintain consistent operating standards over time.

Equipment Maintenance Built Into Daily Operations

A recovery suite only delivers value when its equipment is available and functioning properly. HealthFitness builds equipment care into daily operations rather than treating maintenance as an occasional checklist.

Our approach includes four key practices:

  • Plan: Manage equipment lifecycles and anticipate maintenance or replacement needs.
  • Train: Provide guidance on proper equipment use to support safe operation and help prevent avoidable issues.
  • Identify: Proactively identify potential problems before they lead to greater disruption.
  • Inspect: Conduct standardized daily inspections to help identify issues and maintain operating standards.

When an issue occurs, HealthFitness coordinates with the appropriate vendor and manages the repair or replacement process.

The goal is to minimize disruptions and help keep recovery services available for members.

Making Recovery Easy to Access

Recovery is more likely to become part of a routine when it fits easily into a member’s day. HealthFitness’ online membership platform supports enrollment, registration, scheduling, check-in, and reporting, with mobile access that allows members to book from their phones.

Scheduling can also flex by service to accommodate different needs and levels of support, including:

  • Self-service booking: Gives members control over scheduling while helping reduce front-desk bottlenecks.
  • Flexible session lengths: Accommodates everything from 15-minute stretch add-ons to 45 to 60-minute sessions.
  • Staff-guided access: Allows members to use equipment such as Theraguns with staff guidance, without requiring a full appointment.
  • Scheduled private sessions: Supports higher-touch services such as cold therapy or contrast therapy.
The result is a recovery experience designed around how members use the space, rather than a one-size-fits-all scheduling model.

Measuring What Members Use and What They Value

A recovery program shouldn’t rely on assumptions about what members want. Understanding participation, utilization, and satisfaction helps employers make informed decisions about their offerings.

HealthFitness uses participation metrics and standardized reporting to give clients visibility across locations. These metrics feed into our Monthly Fitness Reporting and Participation Metrics Dashboard and can include:

  • Recovery sessions and visits by service
  • Utilization by service
  • Member satisfaction
  • Participation trends over time

This reporting framework helps clients understand which services members are using and where there may be opportunities to adjust programming, staffing, or investment.

For example, across our assisted stretching programs, 96% of participants report satisfaction with their progress toward their goals, and 81% plan to continue. Participants most often cite greater flexibility and range of motion, less muscle and joint soreness, and improved posture among their reasons for participating.
These figures relate specifically to our assisted stretching programs and illustrate how participant feedback can help inform decisions about individual services.

Monthly and quarterly reviews turn reporting into action, from engagement planning and programming changes to staffing adjustments and future investment. The goal isn’t simply to know what happened. It’s to know what to do next.

Proof in Practice

HealthFitness manages a 360,000-square-foot whole-health facility for a major global retailer, including its Rest & Recharge recovery suite.

After 40 years of in-house management at a previous facility, the client transitioned management of its new facility to HealthFitness. Today, the facility has more than 42,000 members.

The Rest & Recharge suite includes:

  • HydroMassage
  • CryoLounge+ for alternating warm and cold therapy
  • Massage therapy
  • Compression systems for the legs, arms, and lower back
  • LED light therapy for muscle recovery
Monthly Results
  • 3,000+ recovery visits
  • 1,200+ unique individuals using the space
  • 200 massages
  • 140 red-light therapy sessions
  • 40 cryotherapy sessions

These figures demonstrate the level of engagement the recovery suite supports, with members using a range of services each month.

The example illustrates how recovery amenities can become an established part of a broader fitness and wellness environment when access, staffing, equipment, and day-to-day operations are managed together.

Recovery Works Better as a Program

The future of recovery in workplace fitness isn’t simply about adding more equipment. It’s about creating an experience employees can access easily, trust consistently, and incorporate into their routines.

For employers, a well-managed program also provides visibility into how recovery services are being used, helping inform decisions about engagement, operations, and future investment.

That’s the model HealthFitness brings to recovery programs: not a collection of equipment, but a coordinated approach built around trained staff, consistent standards, convenient access, and measurable program activity.
